We can rent part or all of our lovingly and tastefully restored Bourgeois townhouse in the center of Pezenas, city of Moliere, (population 10,000) 50 minutes west of Montpellier, and an excellent location to explore the coast and vineyards and mountains of the beautiful Herault. This is an unusual stone house of great antiquity which we are carefully bringing back to its original state whilst equipping it with modern facilities. There is a classic Pezenas stone corkscrew staircase dating from the sixteenth century when Pezenas householders were permitted by its royal duchy to add more stories to their 12th century dwellings.
You enter the house by a long and splendid, beamed hallway lighted by moroccan fixtures and between walls restored with 'chaux' (lime) painting. You pass through a stone doorway, are greeted by terracotta angels under stone arches to your right. To your left is a small interior courtyard which on the hottest summer days remains fresh and cool. There is a 23 metres studio equipped with an unusual artisanal kitchen and shower room-wc, double bed, ample closets, books. From the studio you go back into the hallway and up to the next 23 sq metre double bedroom with a shower room-wc. On the next level there is third 23 sq metre double bedroom (the blue room) with bath-wc, and a 63 sq. metre living-conference room with exposed beams and wooden ceiling, wooden floors (sleeps two) and which looks over the square and the light well. In the hall way you continue up a wooden stair case to the third floor which has a 60 sq metre sitting and dining room and shower room-wc and laundry facilities, full mezzanine (for sleeping), a large kitchen with stone walls and breakfast nook that gives onto a pretty south facing terrace. |
